about

𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘰 Í𝘳𝘪𝘴 is an album by Camilla Padgitt-Coles based on the 7 colors of the visible light spectrum. Each track is dedicated to a single color with a related musical note and area of the body (or chakra). The chakra system originated from Hinduism and Tantric Buddhist traditions, and is widely interpreted into colors and sounds as follows:

Crown chakra (The top of the head) = Violet = B
Third eye chakra (Between the eyes) = Indigo = A
Throat chakra (Neck) = Blue = G
Heart chakra (Chest) = Green = F
Solar plexus chakra (Upper belly) = Yellow = E
Sacral chakra (Lower abdomen) = Orange = D
Root chakra (The base of the spine) = Red = C

Kundalini energy typically flows upwards through the body to open one up to higher planes of consciousness. However, 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘰 Í𝘳𝘪𝘴 directs the listener's awareness in the opposite direction, starting at the top of the head and ending at the base of the spine to ground and connect to the Earth.

The album also incorporates color-to-sound relationships from Dinshah P. Ghadiali’s experimental research on chromotherapy (the practice of using colored light directly on the body for treating various ailments, often incorporating supporting sounds), and the personal sound-to-color translations of the artist.

Each track is centered around a base note related to one of the chakras with crystal singing bowls, tubular bells, and other acoustic instruments recorded on top. The acoustic instrumentation intermingles with the synthesized base drone in a way that sometimes produces a third sound. This mirrors how sound and color can also create a third thing: resonance in the human body.

It is recommended that the listener follow and focus on each area of the body as the album progresses. It is a humble experiment; only you know how it makes you feel, and your intention and attention on yourself are part of how it works.
